New Product Alert!
We know that hydration is very important, but sometimes plain old water doesn’t cut it. Those times are after strenuous exercise, vomiting, diarrhea or high fever, when you are not only depleted of water, but of electrolytes as well.
Electrolytes are actually salts, and their main job is to regulate the water in/out of cells and assists with nerve impulses. The easiest way to replenish electrolytes and water is one of those brightly colored sports beverages. One look at the label (or the fluorescent color) will reveal the horrifying amounts of sugar and unpronounceable chemical ingredients.
Coconut water is one way to replenish electrolytes without the added chemicals of sports drinks, but to be honest, when I am super dehydrated as the result of an intense IBS flair up, it just doesn’t cut it for me.
What does work, however is Vega Sport electrolyte hydrator. It’s vegan, gluten free and sweetened with stevia.
It’s a powder that you add to water, and although the color is not at all fun, the lemon lime flavor is reminiscent of a certain yellow sports drink that shall remain nameless. I am now in the habit of making a large water bottle of it and keeping it in the fridge. It feels especially nice first thing in the morning when I’m especially thirsty (is that just me?).
